Upper Peninsula - Michigan
We've been in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (UP) for a few days. Mackinac Island and Pictured Rocks have been highlights, and I separated them out because of the sheer number of pictures we took. We're continuing our journey northwest on the UP. It's somewhat challenging to find places to stay because it is the summer season, and the UP is a very popular vacation destination.
From Ojibwa, we head up the Keweenaw Bay to into the town of Hancock to the Hancock Recreation Area on Portage Lake. It turns out to be a great location. It's right in town, so we can restock on supplies, and it has great Wi-Fi, so we can catch up on things, like getting our new blog launched!
We do want to take in as much of the beautiful lakes as we can, so we're going to take a chance and see if we can get a spot at the Ojibwa Sand Point Campground, which does not take reservations. The campground sits on Keweenaw Bay on Lake Superior. To our surprise, the campground is not crowded at all, and we have our pick of some great sites.

From Hancock, it's a easy drive up towards Copper Harbor to see the sights. A stop at the Jampot Bakery, run by Society of St. John monks, seems to be a mandatory tourist stop. We were about 5th in line so only had to wait outside about 20 minutes. What I didn't know is that we had hit the line during a lull and, by the time we were done, the line went halfway around the building.
