Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Michigan
Our next memorable destination is Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, located on the southern shores of Lake Superior in upper Michigan. Lake Superior forms part of the border with Canada to the north and Wisconsin and Minnesota to the west. Lake Superior is the largest lake (by surface area) in the world and contains as much water as all of the other Great Lakes combined.
Although you can drive to and hike the National Lakeshore, the only way to truly see the dramatic formations and the variegated color of the rocks is by boat.

By the time we booked our cruise, the sunset cruise had already been booked. So we got a late afternoon cruise instead.
This turned out to be a fortunate occurrence as our cruise ended up sandwiched between rain earlier in the day and increasing clouds that turned the evening light flat as we returned to port.
For our time here, the closest available site we could find was about 45 minutes away in Marquette. They have a nice city owned park with full hook-ups.
