Duluth, MN

At our last stop in CrossLake MN, Tom got to talking with one of our neighbors. She was from Duluth, which was not far away. When asked if she liked it, she said, yes, but you just have to go see it for yourself. So we did.

Duluth is an industrial port on the western end of Lake Superior. The St Louis River flows into Lake Superior separating Duluth, Minnesota from Superior, Wisconsin.

We're staying at the Spirit Lake Marina on the St Louis River.

Duluth is a lively city with the aforementioned industrial port, a lot of large ship traffic, a lively downtown, a waterfront Lakewalk trail, railroad museum and more. Oh yes and pickleball. Did I mention pickleball?

While we were there, we took a walk along the Lakewalk trail.

Since it was such a nice day on our way back decided to reward ourselves with happy hour and appetizers at Fitgers. Fitgers started as a brewery in the late 1800's. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and now houses a hotel, shops and restaurants, which all sit along the Lakewalk.

We got the perfect table outside on the end overlooking the lake. Since the weather was so nice, we whiled away a good portion of the afternoon eating, drinking and watching the world go by.

We went for a drive to take in the area and hopefully take in the start of the fall colors. We drove along Skyline Parkway, which, as you can imagine, runs along the skyline above Duluth.

We ended up visiting Enger tower, a five story stone tower with commanding views of the city, lake and port.
